LiteGait

LiteGait Bodysupport

LiteGait creates an ideal environment for treating patients with a wide range of impairments and functional levels.  LiteGait provides proper posture, reduces weight bearing, eliminates concerns for balance, and facilitates the training of coordinated lower extremity movement.  Its unique harness design not only permits unilateral or bilateral support allowing progression of the weight bearing load from non to full weight bearing, but also allows the clinician to manually assist the legs and pelvis to achieve proper gait patterns.  The LiteGait harness provides frontal, sagittal and transverse plane postural control.

The LiteGait family of products has provided a safe and effective environment for walking therapy for over 2 decades.  As the original partial weight bearing therapy device, LiteGait has forever altered gait therapy techniques, as well as expectations of outcome.

Why LiteGait?

As inventions go, LiteGait was an accident.  It came out of a basic science study looking to understand the role of spinal cord in generation and control of locomotor patterns.  The collaboration between the researchers and the clinicians started because the study needed subjects - clinicians' patients.  It soon grew to a demand by the clinicians that what was being used to provide the environment for the research patient - near complete SCI patient being ambulated over treadmill - to be available for clinical use.

Researchers made a stationary setup with support from near the ceiling.  That is when the barage of corrective demands began.  It needs to be mobile.  I need it over ground to go into patient room.  It needs to hold my severely involved patients too.  we need better access to the legs.  Need to stablize the hip.  Need to ...   Several years of back and forth, it became obvious that what was designed to meet the demand made by those clinicians needed to be commercially available so all clinicans can provide and patients benefit from the environment; and LiteGait was born.

The why question leads us to LiteGait anatomy and the features built into it - what makes it the most effective therapy environment.

1 : Yoke

Rigid  •  FlexAble

The Y-shaped yoke supports the patient from directly over each shoulder maintaining posture and balance. This unique design allows control over the partial weight-bearing status of each side of the body independently. FlexAble Yoke easily transitions from rigid support to allow controlled vertical displacement, ideal for challenging posture and balance during gait as therapy progresses.

2 : Straps

Right  •  Left  •  Front  •  Back

Four overhead adjustable straps allow correction of asymmetric upper body posture. Each of the straps can be individually adjusted to correct posture for proper walking.

3 : Harness

Ideal  •  Adjustable  •  Washable

The harness securely wraps around the patient's trunk and comfortably transfers load to the lower abdomen, over the hip, and through the groin. While the optional thigh straps will avoid loads to the groin area, the standard groin straps prevent interference with limb movement. This promotes full leg extension and prevents sitting.

4 : Actuator

No Compressors  •  No Pumps  •  No Noise

The lift mechanism is a rechargeable, battery-powered actuator which permits the incremental adjustment of weight-bearing. This allows patients weighing up to 500lbs to be brought to an upright posture by a single operator. The handheld control allows therapists to conveniently bring patient to a standing position and adjust the amount of weight supported.

5 : Base

Mobile  •  Stable  •  Versatile

The wheeled base, designed for over-ground walking, fits through most doorways, over most treadmills, and under most hospital beds. LiteGait® casters lock the device securely in place for standing activities or treadmill training. Then, when patients are ready to practice the skills they have learned, LiteGait can be smoothly pushed over ground, while preventing falls and eliminating the fear of falling.
